I have fond memories of going out every now and again, as a boy, on the spud round (selling potatoes) with Uncle Derek. A number of very amusing (to me) catch phrases would develop over the course of the day, as we went from house to house and exchanged pleasantries with a number of fond customers.

It was only later that I found out that a lot of these catch phrases came from the Goons or Hancock’s half hour. It didn’t detract from the fact that I was having fun with my uncle, who seemed to take life in a slightly more laid back manner than most grown-ups, and he made the experience a lot of fun for me.
